ABI ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURIES

ACCESS: LEVEL 2

Students learn how to take advantage of relational database efficiency to maintain data by establishing relationships and enforcing referential integrity. In addition, students save data entry time by using sound table design techniques to control data entry and automate tasks. Students also benefit by becoming familiar with Access features that enable them to customize forms and reports.

AIR BRAKE ENDORSEMENT TRAINING
Course:GEN7070

The objective of this 12-hour Ministry of Transportation approved course is to ensure that drivers attain the knowledge necessary to operate brake systems safely and to be able to detect faults in these systems. Upon successful completion of the written and practical test, participants are provided documentation to be presented at a DriveTest Centre to obtain the Z endorsement classification on their licence.

Notes: Requirement: Full class G or higher driver's licence. Additional course information: The student must attend 100% of the course hours. The course runs on two consecutive Saturdays and you will be assigned an appointment time of approximately a half-hour for the Sunday of the second week when you must attend to complete the practical test. The Air Brake Handbook is included in the price of the course and it will be provided in class.

BASICS OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE REPAIR
Course:MVM7001

Using theory and practice learn how to perform some of the basic preventative maintenance and simple repairs on your motorcycle. During this workshop participants learn safe work habits around motorcycles, proper use of tools and equipment used in servicing motorcycles. Through hands-on experience participants learn the basics of oil and filter changes, fuel and charging systems, and the functions of the drive train. A variety of motorcycles are discussed which include two and four stroke cycle designs.

Notes: Check the Booklist online for supplies required for the course. Students are encouraged to bring their own motorcycle to the Saturday class.

GROOMING YOUR DOG - LEVEL II

HAND DRUMMING BEYOND THE BASICS

We were all born with a sense of rhythm - now learn to express it! Using spoken rhythm, foot falls and hand claps as a way of anchoring the rhythms in the body, you learn the various parts of two ensemble rhythm pieces. By the end of the course, the class will be playing like an orchestra on djembe and dunun drums, shakers and claves.

Notes: GEN7109 Introduction to Hand Drumming or previous drumming experience required. Students should bring their own drum (djembe, ashiko or conga hand drum are appropriate for this class). See photo of drums in Instructor's Biography.

MOSAIC FOR BEGINNERS

This one-day workshop introduces students to mosaic - the history and some of today's current trends. You will create a colourful side table, suitable for the patio, using a pattern and pieces of stained glass, mirror and beads. As well, you will have the opportunity to try glass cutting and clipping. In addition, grouting technique will be demonstrated.

MOTORCYCLE RIDER TRAINING COURSE
Course:MVM7100

This course is designed for new and returning motorcyclists. You learn basic handling and safety skills and gradually learn more demanding maneuvers. Individual coaching has you handling confidently even simulated traffic emergencies. In addition to learning new skills you have the opportunity to practise assertive shifting, push-steering, and threshold braking. Defensive riding tips will make you a safer rider, and a more conscientious car driver. As a result of successfully completing this course you are eligible for the M2 licence and may benefit from reduced insurance rates.

Notes: Requirement: Applicants who wish to get a licence must be 16 years of age or over and possess a valid Ontario Ministry of Transportation M1 licence which you will be required to present to the instructor on the first night of class. The M1 licence is a 90-day permit to ride a motorcycle and is issued by the Ministry of Transportation upon successful completion of a written test. Additional course information: Motorcycles are provided at the course. Students must provide their own DOT helmets, heavy jackets, leather gloves that cover the wrists, jeans and leather footwear that have full ankle protection. Classroom instruction will take place at Algonquin College, Pembroke, on Friday evenings from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. (please use north entrance) and the practical training will take place at CFB Petawawa from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. WHY NOT MAKE INTRAVENOUS THERAPY AS EASY AS POSSIBLE?

The theory of intravenous infusion (IV) therapy as well as IV equipment and maintenance are reviewed. In this hands-on practical lab, you learn how to monitor and maintain intravenous infusions using the needleless Inter Link System and Plum infusion pump. Other areas covered in this session are the concepts of Total Parenteral Nutrition and the maintenance of blood transfusions. In addition, you learn the theory of initiating a peripheral intravenous infusion and then practise the skills within a simulated environment.
