This program enables internationally educated nurses (IENs) to meet entry to practice requirements set for registered practical nurses in Ontario. The program provides students with the basic knowledge and skills to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination in Ontario. Students focus on gaining an understanding of nursing instruction in a Canadian context through a variety of delivery methods, such as, the classroom, the laboratory, and in various health care facilities.
Internationally educated nurses with a College of Nurses assessment that states bridging is required for practice may obtain advanced standing in this program. Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition is used to assist IENs in gaining college diploma credit.
Upon successful completion of this program, IENs can bridge into the Practical Nurse Diploma to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) academic pathway developed in collaboration with the University of Ottawa.
