This program emphasizes the overall function of a business and how its success is the result of all areas and departments, such as, finance, marketing, operations, and human resources. Students learn the essential business skills of communication, customer-service, information technology, teamwork, problem-solving, and task-management. In addition, the program exposes students to the importance of ethics, demeanour, and the professional practices that contribute to an individual's success in business.
The curriculum covers all aspects of establishing, managing, and operating both private and public organizations including accounting, management, marketing, entrepreneurship, and business finance. Students use case work to support their learning, work on a variety of business-related projects, prepare proposals, and complete a professional business plan that can serve as the blueprint for an actual business.
Qualified students can participate in a summer work cooperative placement. Students gain real-world work experience and an opportunity to network and make contacts in the industry. Students return for the last academic term with experience and insight that helps them succeed in the final semester courses.
