Program #6013X02PWO

Supply Chain Management

This certificate program provides a comprehensive understanding of the principles and techniques essential to the effective management of the integrated supply chain system. Supply chain management is defined broadly to include responsibility for planning and decision making as it relates to the acquisition, use, flow, and disposition of materials, including finished goods and after-sales service management.

To qualify for this certificate, you must complete the program within five years.

In recent years, the emergence of integrated computerized planning and control systems have dictated a need for formal education programs that develop and reinforce the basic knowledge and understanding of people working in any supply chain function. The Supply Chain Management program was developed to meet that need.

The program is of interest to those currently pursuing or considering a management career in production planning, material planning, capacity planning, master schedulling, inventory management, production control, purchasing, traffic, logistics, service parts management, warehousing, or distribution. This Part-time certificate program represents the combined efforts of Algonquin College, local industry, the Association for Operations Management (APICS), and the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC).

The certificate is awarded upon successful completion of eleven courses: four Algonquin courses, three PMAC courses, and four APICS courses. The PMAC course MGT5183, Introduction to Operations Management, can be used as a substitute for MGT2320.

APICS has developed a standardized program for professional Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) which is recognized across North America. The APICS courses provide in-depth and up-to-date coverage of Supply Chain Management and prepare candidates to write the APICS exams. Students interested in writing the APICS exams must register separately through APICS. Successful completion of APICS exams is required for the CPIM designation. For more information, see www.apics.org and www.apicsottawa.on.ca

PMAC is Canada's leading source of high-quality education and training in purchasing and supply management. PMAC offers a certificate Supply Management and the Certified Professional Purchaser program. For more information, see pmac.ca
