This course introduces students to the organization and structure of the judicial system. It examines the main components of this system, such as the law, police, courts, corrections, and community, and analyzes their interdependence. The purposes and principles of the relevant legislation and policies governing this continuum of justice services are studied. Such legislation include the Criminal Code of Canada, the Provincial Offences Act, the Ministry of Correctional Services Act and Regulations, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
