Job Description  

Under the general direction of the Supervisor, Technical Services and Energy Conservation the incumbent performs inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of all Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and other refrigeration systems at all Algonquin College campuses.

The incumbent performs the duties of Operating engineer as prescribed in the Technical Standards and Safety Authority Act 2000 under Ontario Regulation 219/01 and is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all pressure vessels listed on the Ontario certificate of Registration of a Plant and will be part of a shift rotation. Performs other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

This position oversees contractual work performed for a wide scope of activities including regular maintenance on equipment, retrofits to existing equipment, and new installations ensuring contractual obligations are met.

Must be able to climb ladders, walk for extended periods and carry up to 20 kgs.

Required Qualifications  
  • Refrigeration and Air Conditioning systems license or a two year Community College diploma in an equivalent trade such as Instrumentation
  • Certified Commercial Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Mechanic (313A)
  • One of the following certifications:
    • 4th class stationary engineer; or
    • Gas fitter 1
  • 5 years practical work experience in the field of HVAC systems
  • 2 years practical work experience as a licensed journeyman, (313A) servicing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems, combination gas-electric packaged heating/cooling and Building Control System (preferable Siemens Apogee system) experience.
  • Ability to obtain a 4th class stationary engineering or B class refrigeration certificate within the probationary period of six month statement in the job posted
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to undertake accurate troubleshooting of HVAC equipment
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
