Job Description  

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Trades, the Academic Chair is responsible for providing academic leadership in the management and administration of faculty, support staff and students in the newly formed Applied Science and Environmental Technology Department. The Academic Chair is accountable for the planning, development, delivery and financial viability of the School’s full-time post-secondary, non post-secondary, and contract training activities and for ensuring that these programs and courses are responsive and relevant to the needs of the students for the community at large in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan.

In addition, the Academic Chair is responsible for the development and delivery of service courses that meet the programming needs of the departments of the Faculty located at the Woodroffe Campus.

Required Qualifications  
  • A PhD is a preferred credential. A minimum of a Masters degree in a discipline related to one of the following preferred areas: Biotechnology, Photonics, Clean Technology associated with Bio-Science, Environmental Technology, Renewable Energy, Water Treatment Technology, Nanoscience/Nanotechnology. Other related applied science or environmental studies degrees, may be considered
  • A minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience in an applied science or industrial setting, with a minimum of five (5) years recent experience in positions of progressive levels of responsibility
  • Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated superior organizational, planning, and financial management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to engage the external community and develop partnership linkages
  • Ability to respond quickly to rapidly changing market conditions
  • Experience working in an adult education setting either as a result of prior teaching, curriculum development, and/or educational consultancy
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education and applied research, preferably within an applied post-secondary environment
  • Ability to identify and lead the implementation of new technology, including educational technology tools in the learning environment
  • Experience managing personnel in a unionized environment, would be considered an asset
