Job Description  
Reporting to the Director of Student Support Services, the incumbent hires, supervises, manages, and facilitates the efficient operation of the Centre for Students with Disabilities (CSD). The incumbent manages and directs a multi-disciplinary team comprised of CSD staff, liaises with all internal stakeholders (academic staff, Student Support Services staff, Physical Resources, etc.), external bodies and advocacy groups, as well as governmental agencies. The incumbent is fully accountable for all areas of the CSD budget, including special grants, Bursary for Students with Disabilities, as well as any other external funding. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that Algonquin has a professional development program to assist staff to understand and meet students’ needs and the AODA legislation. The incumbent demonstrates leadership promoting accessibility and inclusion, and acts as a change agent, a student advocate and a catalyst within the institution, and assists all departments in moving towards these goals.

Required Qualifications  
  • Masters Degree in Disability Studies, Counselling, Psychology, Education, or a closely-related field
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in Disability Services combined with some relevant management experience
  • Knowledge of disability issues, Human Rights legislation and student development, relevant to a College setting
  • Demonstrate leadership ability appropriate to a professional setting with students with disabilities
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of Information Technology as it relates to counselling and adaptive technology
  • Management and Administration skills
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, plan and organize tasks according to priority
  • Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions
  • Experience in budgeting and assessing quarterly reports
  • Ability to work flexible hours when required
  • Knowledge of the organization and the operation of Student Support Services, would be
  • considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of Algonquin College policies and directives, would be considered an asset
