Job Description  
Reporting to the Dean, this position provides broad academic leadership to the diverse programs in the department. The incumbent has complete familiarity with the academic and administrative policies and departments of the College and is able to communicate effectively with students and staff at all levels. The incumbent ensures that objectives of the programs offered by the Department are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The incumbent facilitates the on-going review of existing programs and the development of new programs to reflect market changes and the employment needs of industry. The incumbent conducts first-level investigation of complaints from students and staff, and initiates the problem-solving process. The incumbent establishes positive relationships with industry and business representatives and participates in the College’s student recruitment and job placement initiatives for graduates. The Chair is responsible for ensuring that programs are responsive and relevant to the need of students, industry and the community in accordance with the College Strategic and Business Plans. Additionally, the Chair, Culinary Programs is fully responsible for all activities, special events and V.I.P. functions taking place in Restaurant international/Savoir Fare.

Required Qualifications  
  • A Masters (i.e. M.B.A, M. ED) is a preferred credential. A four (4) year Degree in business or a related field of study; or an equivalent combination of postsecondary education and related practical work experience may be considered.
  • A minimum nine (9) years of relevant experience, with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in positions of progressive levels of responsibility.
  • Red Seal or equivalent professional certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of administration and sound knowledge of the foodservice and culinary industry.
  • Supervisory / senior level leadership/management experience
  • Demonstrated strong background in education through prior teaching in an adult educational environment, curriculum development, and/or educational consultant experience.
  • Experience managing personnel in a unionized environment.
  • Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and financial management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage the external community and develop partnership linkages.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education and applied research, preferably within an applied post-secondary environment.
  • Ability to respond quickly to rapidly changing market.
