Job Description  

As a technician, the incumbent is responsible for completing work requests submitted by a range of client types, receiving and resolving critical escalations, and sharing technologies and ideas to create efficiencies. They periodically meet with vendors to evaluate products and services to determine if they are of beneficial use in the academic environment.

The incumbent must be well practiced in supporting hardware, software (firmware/BIOS, Operating System and end-users applications) and networking (both wired and wireless) on a multitude of changing device types including Microsoft Windows, Linux and Apple OSX desktops & laptops, smartphones, tablets and e-classroom equipment.

The incumbent is the Senior Technologist overseeing the duties and assignments of the full-time/part-time staff and students employed within his section. He/she acts as an intermediary between the IIRTS Department and all College departments. He/she provides a high level of technical advice, guidance and support for most types of hardware, software, server and networking related equipment, to all levels of the organization including support for other members of IIRTS Client Care Group.

* This is a 10 (ten) month position with an annual lay off period of 2 months (June and July) for each of the two year terms.

Required Qualifications  
  • 3 year diploma or equivalent in a Computer related program
  • A+ Certification
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience is required as a technical service representative supporting Netware, DOS, Windows, PC’s, UNIX, Linux, Internet; network management and network installation.
  • High degree of independent judgment, problem solving and decision making skills, which addresses the needs of the client under stressful situations.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines.
  • Proven effective leadership skills with the ability to provide guidance, support and assistance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Able to work in a team environment
