Job Description  

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic, the Dean is accountable for contributing to the academic well-being and growth of the College and for providing academic and administrative leadership, supervision, support and direction to five academic chairs, one academic manager, and approximately two hundred professors and support staff in the Faculty of Technology and Trades, which includes the School of Advanced Technology and the Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence.

The Dean is accountable for the planning, development, delivery and on-going review of the Faculty’s full-time and part-time post-secondary programs including Bachelor’s degrees in applied studies and joint collaborative degrees with a local university, and apprenticeship programming. The incumbent is responsible to ensure that the programs/courses are responsive and relevant to the needs of the students and the community at large and that they conform to accreditation requirements and national/provincial standards wherever applicable.

Required Qualifications  
  • Minimum of a Masters Degree (PhD preferred), in a discipline related to one or more of the Faculty programs of study
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of related experience in increasingly responsible roles
  • Five (5) years of senior-level leadership and management experience, preferably in a post-secondary educational institution
  • Experience managing personnel in a large unionized environment
  • Demonstrated ability to provide academic leadership to faculty and staff, and to develop high performing teams
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Superior organizational, planning, and financial management skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Skilled at negotiation, and conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to develop partnership linkages to achieve long term institutional goals
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success, teaching excellence, quality education, and applied research
  • Professional designation in technology or a related program (Professional Engineer, Certificate of Qualification) would be considered an asset
