Job Description  

Reporting to the Manager of the Learning Resource Centre, the incumbent performs Library Technician duties for a divergent clientele.

This client service position provides Circulation/Reference services including, but not limited to:
  • Using electronic & manual library systems to circulate library materials and/or equipment
  • Providing guidance to client onsite and offsite (via telephone/email/face-to-face/real time chat) in the use of all library information sources
  • Shelving and Shelf-reading the collection as required
  • Opening/closing duties as required

This front desk Library Technician position assists students with questions related to college software and troubleshoots minor equipment problems or requests work orders if needed. Provides back up support to the Audio-Visual Library Technician. The incumbent may be required to work evenings and weekends as the LRC schedule requires.

Note: The incumbent in this position works Monday to Thursday from 1:00pm to 9:00pm, and Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Required Qualifications  
  • Two (2) year diploma in Library and Information Technology
  • Minimum of two 2 years practical experience in an library setting including public services and technical service experience, audio-visual circulation, would be considered an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to respond with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Ability to empathize with client, while adhering to policy
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to quickly and accurately assess a client’s needs and to provide service as required
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of standard college software, would be considered an asset
  • Experience in GeneSIS and Blackboard, would be considered an asset
  • Experience with Virtual Reference, would be considered an asset
